The 2026 Trend Worth Paying Attention to: comfort
One of the biggest trends this fall isn’t about a certain colour or a countertop material.
It’s comfort.
After years of designing homes around clean lines and visual simplicity, homeowners are paying more attention to how a space actually feels to live in.
That means comfortable seating, warmer lighting, better storage, quieter rooms, practical entryways, and spaces that accommodate real life.
A beautiful entryway isn’t much use if there is nowhere to put four pairs of winter boots. A stylish basement won’t get used if it’s cold and uncomfortable. And a gorgeous kitchen becomes frustrating if there isn’t enough storage or workspace.

What Should You Renovate Before Winter?
Start outside.
Take a close look at your roof, flashing, siding, windows, doors, caulking, gutters and downspouts. Small problems that are relatively straightforward to address in the fall can become much more difficult once snow, ice, and freezing temperatures arrive.
Make sure gutters are clear and downspouts are directing water away from your foundation. In the spring your roof is going to be shedding a mountain of melting snow – and that water has to go somewhere.
Check for damaged exterior materials and areas where water could get behind siding or around windows and doors. Is the wood around any of your windows starting to rot? Or do you get condensation in your windows every winter? Let’s talk about replacing and upgrading.
Then move inside.
If certain rooms are noticeably colder than others, don’t automatically assume that your furnace or ductwork is the problem. Drafts, inadequate insulation, air leakage, and aging windows can all contribute to an uncomfortable home.

Identify rooms that are uncomfortable, inefficient, poorly organized, or simply underused. Are there rooms or spaces in your house that you almost never use? Ask yourself why, think about how this could be changed, and then bring your ideas to ACR for some meaningful conversation.
