At All Canadian Renovations, we are a proud Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), having earned this designation from the National Association of Home Builders. This certification has provided us with the tools, knowledge, and expertise to design living spaces for people who want to remain in their homes as they age. We work hard to create innovative renovation solutions for each of our clients.
What is CAPS?
The CAPS designation program teaches remodeling professionals the technical, customer service, and business management skills needed to create home modifications for the aging-in-place population. As they age, most seniors would prefer to remain in their own homes. The CAPS designation certifies us to perform renovations that will allow them to continue living at home safely and securely.
These modifications aren’t just for senior citizens. Anyone living with a mobility issue or disability can benefit from improved accessibility features, which can range from a minor change to a major overhaul. Renovations can also be made to make a home more “visitable,” providing added features that family, friends, and other visitors might need.
What Types of Renovations Do We Complete?
Aging-in-place principles involve sweeping changes that are designed to custom-fit a home as time goes by, taking both current and future circumstances into account. The CAPS design principles work to create beautiful and barrier-free environments that will allow residents to remain at home for as long as possible. Some of the most commonly requested aging-in-place renovations include:
- No threshold home entry with a gradual elevation
- Widened halls and doorways for easier wheelchair access
- Lighting improvements and lowered switches
- Grab bar and towel bar installation
- Removal of steps between rooms
- Lowered countertops
- Bathtub and shower conversions
- Handrail installation
- Installation of non-slip, no-glare flooring
How is All Canadian Renovations Different?
At All Canadian Renovations, we are committed to creating homes that will best support the current and future needs of our clients. We do this by completing a thorough needs assessment, asking our clients what they want, and providing our suggestions. We will also collaborate with the client’s occupational therapist to create solutions that will allow the homeowner to remain independent at home.
As experienced design professionals, we can complete these home improvements without making a home appear too clinical. The space will be more accessible, but it won’t appear to be designed specifically for a person in a wheelchair. Not only is this a great benefit for the homeowner, but it can also improve the future resale value of the home.
At All Canadian Renovations, we are also a pioneer in wood-backing, which can be used to install future robe hooks, grab bars, and toilet paper holders. We always install wood-backing during our renovations, even in our projects that don’t involve aging-in-place issues. Our renovations are designed to work with our customers as they age, so should they want to install one of these fixtures in the future, they will already have the capability to do so.
