The Issue

The owners of this home (who have since become repeat customers) wanted to update their 1980s home and to better utilize the existing square footage space of the kitchen.

 Our Solutions

We realized that with some layout changes we could open up the kitchen quite a bit and have an extensive length run through the house into the dining room. By knocking out a load-bearing wall and rotating the island we were able to design a pathway that ran through the kitchen into the other section of the house. A flush beam was installed overhead and into the overhead joists to replace the load-bearing wall that allowed for a seamless ceiling and transition to the dining room.

The floor was extended through the kitchen, into the dining room and throughout most of the main floor. The casings and baseboards were all replaced. High-quality vinyl plank flooring was used for the look and durability that would last for decades to come even in a high-traffic location like a kitchen.

Making the ceiling stippling seamless throughout the kitchen and dining room was definitely a challenge like it usually is when matching old and new, but our crew was up for the challenge and did an amazing job. With the load-bearing wall replaced with the overhead beam and matching stippling, the ceiling looks like it has always been continuous.

Quartz countertops, new cabinets, and stainless steel appliances created a modern look for this kitchen.

The pantry was reduced in size to better match the new layout and for a better fit for the microwave. In addition, auto-lighting was installed into the pantry to further brighten up the kitchen and make it more usable.

The Result

The client loves their new kitchen and has hired ACR to renovate other rooms as a result. The open floor layout and brighter lighting make for a nicer working space that is inviting, light, and cheerful. This renovation will provide a welcoming space for meal preparations for many years in the future.
